After i finish doing weights my body looks a lot more toned, how do i keep it that way?

Today I did a work out with dumb-bells and noticed afterwards i was a lot more vascular and looked more toned in my abdominals and upper body. Will continuing this every other day make those results permanent? I will be running one day and then weights the next, alternating. Also how many calories should i be eating? I dont really care about losing pounds, but mostly burning body fat and toning. I’m 5′11.5, 203 pounds.

You’ll always look and feel more toned and vascular after a weight lifting workout because lifting weights causes an increased amount of blood to be sent to your working muscles via your blood vessels. This is the “pumped” feeling that weight lifters talk about. You won’t look and feel as toned and vascular on days that you don’t lift weights, but the more muscle mass you build the more toned and vascular you will look and feel even on the days you don’t workout.

In order to get the most benefits from weight lifting, you have to make sure that you are following a good weight lifting and nutrition program. Don’t overdo the weight lifting. Rest days are just as important as training days. Muscles don’t grow during training, they grow after training. Lifting weights causes microscopic tears in the muscles, and rest days allow the muscles to repair themselves, grow, and get stronger. You also have to provide your muscles with proper nutrition or they won’t grow and get stronger. Training and nutrition go hand in hand.
